Johannesburg Sketch-Out

Brrrr.....up on Northcliff Ridge even the water tower seemed to huddle from the chill wind.

Well perhaps I exaggerate, as it was hardly a biting wind and indeed by Port Elizabeth or Cape Town standards hardly more than a brisk breeze.

Nevertheless, I found Cathy and John bravely sketching, but wisely behind a rocky ridge in a less exposed spot.
John & Cathy and I were the only ones to brave Saturday's suddenly grey, breezy weather.
The view towards the city was over our amazingly treed suburbs - apparently visible as a large man-made forest from space - to the smokey grey outline of the city skyline.

Later we investigated Albert's Farm (nothing doing there) and so escaped to a warm Mugg & Bean on 4th in Parkhurst.
The Mugg & Bean was festooned with Rugby World Cup flags and staff and people were wearing their Springbok T-shirts.
After a while sketching - Cathy as usual doing some grand stuff so that its hard to work oneself as its such a pleasure watching her - we were warmer and indeed the weather was changing to sunny and still.

It was so interesting to watching John focus on a ceiling lamp and then expand to the people and etc below - so the people below would see him focussing on the lamp, relax and not notice themselves being sketched later!

Despite having a wind-cheater jacket I caught a sniffle - the first in years - but it only lasted the weekend.

The link to Cathy's blog is in my list of links....well worth a visit.  It's called "A Sketch In Time".
